The National Institute of Informatics (NII) operates the Science Information NETwork, SINET, as scientific information infrastructure for universities and other institutions across Japan.
To support a wide range of research activities, we constructed Wide Area Data Collection Infrastructure that employed mobile networks for connection to SINET. We conducted the first round of demonstration testing from FY2018 to FY2019, followed by a second round from FY2020 to FY2021.
In FY2022, the Wide Area Data Collection Infrastructure was renamed Mobile SINET. NII will start a next demonstration test incorporating 5G and other new services in FY2022.

Proposal representative for demonstration testing belonging to SINET member institutions (For details, refers to the Application Guidelines.)
Demonstration Testing Period
From Friday, April 1, 2022 to Sunday, March 31, 2024
Submission of Participation Proposals
Applications will be closed within FY2022. If you wish to participate, submit your application proposal promptly.
Given that resources that can be offered from Mobile SINET are limited, applications may be closed without prior notice if resources reach their upper limit..
Flow for Using Mobile SINET
- Read the Application Guidelines carefully and submit the completed Participation Proposal (Template 1).
- After your application is examined and then accepted, you will be informed of the mobile SINET usage application.
Fill it with the conditions for using the network and submit it. - NII will carry out settings of the Mobile SINET according to your application. After completion, the Mobile SINET will be available to you.
Details about conditions of use and others will be provided after your application is accepted.
